Overview
This feature ensures that when a comp (discount) is applied to a check, guests are only presented with tip suggestions based on what they actually pay and not the original total.
Setup
The Ziosk solution must be configured to compute tax after discounts. Within Aloha Manager, navigate to Maintenance > Payments > Comps.
Under Settings, locate “Include comp amount in tippable sales” and ensure it is checked, then click Save to apply the change.
If this setting is not selected, then the tips will be calculated on the original subtotal.

Guest Experience
Comps reduce the check total as expected. Tip suggestions are calculated on the adjusted total, so guests see fair and accurate recommendations.
Example:

Original subtotal (before comp): $42.96
Comp: -$25.00
Adjusted subtotal: $17.96
Tax + Fees: $1.35 + $0.18
Total: $19.49
Tip is calculated on $17.96 20% Tip shown to guest: $3.59
How It Works & Key Takeaways
Comps are sent from the POS as negative dollar amounts, and the Ziosk payment application deducts the comp from the total before calculating recommended tip amounts.
This applies to all comp types when configured correctly, requires no changes to staff workflow, and ensures a more transparent and accurate tipping experience for guests.
